I believe the recipe originated with That Health Junkie and went viral and I was seeing variations of it everywhere. Video: Watch Me Make Date Bark
This recipe is a celebration of simplicity, proving that you don’t need a long list of ingredients to whip up a dessert that’s both scrumptious and nutritious. Medjool dates take center stage in this treat, providing a natural sweetness and a chewy, caramel-like texture that mimics the nougat in a Snickers bar.
Peanut butter joins the party, bringing its creamy, nutty richness into the mix. It complements the dates perfectly, adding a contrasting flavor profile that’s unmistakably Snickers-like. You can use either smooth or chunky peanut butter. It not only contributes to the flavor but also provides a dose of protein and healthy fats, making this indulgence more nutritionally balanced.
To top it all off, we have the hero of this recipe – dark chocolate. The deep, bittersweet notes of dark chocolate create a sinfully satisfying outer layer, perfectly emulating the chocolate coating of a Snickers bar. But don’t be fooled, this isn’t just about flavor. Dark chocolate is rich in antioxidants and has been linked to various health benefits, making it the perfect choice for a dessert that you can enjoy without reservation.
How To Make The Viral Date Bark
Making this delightful Date Bark is a breeze. Simply flatten pitted Medjool dates on a parchment lined pan, and top with peanut butter. Melt dark chocolate in the microwave or a double boiler and spread it over the date and peanut butter layer. Top it with flaky sea salt if desired. Then a quick chill in the freezer to firm it up, and your Snickers-inspired treat is ready to be devoured.
The result? A bark that’s sweet, salty, nutty, and irresistibly rich. With just three ingredients, it’s a snack that’s as simple to prepare as it is satisfying to enjoy. Not only does this Date Bark taste like a Snickers bar, but it also offers a healthier alternative that won’t leave you with a sugar crash. Whether you’re making it for yourself or sharing it with loved ones, this guilt-free indulgence is a winner in every way. So, roll up your sleeves, and let’s create a dessert that’s as good for your taste buds as it is for your well-being.
Tips For Making The BEST Date Bark
Choose Fresh Dates: Opt for soft and plump Medjool dates. Older dates can be dry and won’t provide the desired chewy texture.
Melt Chocolate Properly: When melting the chocolate, use a double boiler or melt it in the microwave in 20-second intervals, stirring after each interval to ensure it doesn’t burn.
Chill Thoroughly: After assembling the bark, give it a full 30 minutes in the freezer to allow all the ingredients to set together.
Use Quality Peanut Butter: Choose a natural peanut butter without added sugars or oils. It provides a richer flavor and smoother texture.
