If you’re a coffee lover, then you know that you want a cup of the perfect coffee that’s deep in flavor, hot and delicious. Most coffee lovers start out just looking for that early morning buzz but it doesn’t just stop there. That caffeine rush from a boiling cup of beans is something to love, and as you explore your coffee taste buds, you may start looking for ways to elevate the experience you’re having.
When the once-sought buzz is your new normal, there are so many ways for you to enjoy your cup of coffee. Whether it’s by buying the right coffee tools to elevate the experience at home, or trying new coffee varieties, here are six tips to level up your coffee game.
Six Tips To Up Your Coffee Game
To put it into bean-shaped perspective, here are some of the best ways to up your coffee game:
Look into grinding your own beans. Coffee beans typically remain fresh for about one to two weeks, and once they’re ground they begin to lose flavor. For the most delicious cups of coffee, grinding the beans in small enough batches to brew within a day or two is going to make a big difference in your flavor experience. You have to really look at the coffee tools that you’ve got though, because not just any machine will do; the blade grinders on the cheaper levels can create uneven grounds, and yes, that really does matter. Water works to pull flavors from the ground to beans at varying speeds, and it all depends on their sizes. If you want an uneven flavor, go for those uneven ground beans.
Froth it up. There’s a reason that your coffee shop experience of coffee is very different to your instant coffee experience at home. Frothing your own milk is going to really change the game for flavor when it comes to your coffee. It looks fancy, but it’s actually very easy to froth your own milk up at home. All you have to do is heat the milk and use a hand held frother to blend up the desired amount of foam. That luxury level of bubbliness can really up your coffee game.
Think about the water. Coffee flavor comes from the beans, but you can’t get to that flavor without hot water. Brewing coffee with a fresh filtered water rather than the stuff from the tap that you’ve boiled in the kettle can allow for that purer cup of coffee without any impurities that affect the taste. You should experiment with a range of different kinds of water too. You need to make sure that it’s also at a boiling temperature when you pour it so that you can draw the most flavour from the bean.
Add some flavor. Coffee itself has an elevated flavor, but you need to think about adding more flavor to it. Some people add chocolate to be able to create mochas, but you could skip out those artificial creamers and go the natural way. With a dash of Chai or cinnamon, you can spice up your cup of coffee and make it taste delicious. Drizzling in coconut milk or a touch of cream can give it that tropical taste of home. And if you want to truly elevate the flavor, make this peppermint mocha.
Go cold. A hot cup of coffee is delicious in the morning, but an Affogato indulgence is something else. It’s actually a dessert from Italy, and it’s a shot of espresso with a scoop of Gelato. If you use a high quality dark roast coffee with a French vanilla ice cream, you’re going to find the most creamy, delicious cold coffee flavor. It cools everything down and it makes it perfect for a warmer evening.
Don’t dilute your coffee. You can cool your coffee and you can even have a slushy coffee but adding ice cubes is going to dilute the flavour. Cold brew coffee is a great way to make a large batch of chilled coffee, but adding ice cubes is unnecessary. There is already water in your coffee, so when you add ice cubes and they melt, you end up with a diluted version that’s not going to give you the flavour you want.
