Like a tropical vacation in a glass, pina coladas can be decadent and high-calorie. But don’t cut yourself off — skip the sugary mixes, break out the blender and try this cleaner and slimmed-down healthy collagen pina colada recipe.
A “typical” piña colada is served in a large glasses and is full of unhealthy, high-calorie ingredients and way too much added sugar. Most bottled mixers list high fructose corn syrup as the first or second ingredient, and most don’t contain a drop of real coconut. There’s got to be a better way!
Collagen – for a boost of protein and all of collagen’s beneficial properties for healthy skin, hair, nails and gut health. I like vanilla collagen in this recipe, but unflavored collagen peptides would also work.
Pineapple rum – If you’re making a cocktail, I prefer the extra punch of flavor from pineapple rum. If you omit the rum, this is a still a delicious mocktail or smoothie recipe
Like a tropical vacation in a glass, piña coladas can be decadent and high-calorie. Or omit the rum and turn it into a healthy pina colada smoothie or mocktail.
(optional) 2 small pieces fresh or frozen coconut. I like this one from Trader Joes.
Instructions
Place all ingredients in blender or food processor and blend until smooth and creamy.
Notes
For mocktail or a smoothie, omit the rum. You could also pour the mixture into popsicle molds and eat it for dessert. I like this frozen coconut from Trader Joes. It’s just 100% coconut with nothing else added.
