My trips to the grocery store ALWAYS include buying a rotisserie chicken because it’s the basis for so many easy meals. That’s why I was thrilled when I figured out how make homemade rotisserie chicken in my air fryer.
Honestly, I was hesitant to cook a whole chicken in my air fryer. I was sure that it was going to either come out undercooked or rubbery, but this technique was foolproof. I used my 8-Quart Ninja Foodi which is BOTH a pressure cooker and an air fryer.
My Favorite Air Fryer – The Ninja Foodi
If you’ve been following me for a while, you may remember that my husband bought me an air fryer for Christmas in 2020, and I promptly returned it. I didn’t want another appliance “cluttering up my kitchen” and because we already had a convection oven, I didn’t think we’d use it that much. The following year he won an air fryer through his job, and I sold it to a friend. Again, I really didn’t want one!
Then I learned that there was a new type of air fryer that also doubled as a pressure cooker when you switched the lid. This meant that I could get rid of my InstantPot and replace it with ONE machine that would do everything. Always one for efficiency, I reluctantly agreed to give it a shot.
After a TON of research, I purchased the 8-Quart Ninja Foodi. Here’s why I chose it:
It’s MULTI-PURPOSE. The Ninja Foodie is a pressure cooker that also crisps. You can quickly pressure cook ingredients to lock in juices, then give them a crispy, golden air-fryer finish.
It’s BIG. It has an extra-large capacity 8-quart ceramic-coated pot that is nonstick, PTFE PFOA free, and easy to wash. The family-sized 5-quart cook & crisp ceramic-coated basket holds up to a 7-lb. chicken. The basket is PTFE PFOA-free, nonstick, and dishwasher safe.
12-IN-1 VERSATILITY: Utilize 12 programmable cooking functions to Pressure Cook, Air Fry/Air Crisp, Steam, Slow Cook, Yogurt, Sear/Sauté, Bake, Roast, Broil, Dehydrate, Sous Vide & Keep Warm.
I’ve honestly fallen in love with this appliance that I didn’t want. I use it all the time now.

This recipe lets you make a whole chicken that’s juicy on the inside, crispy on the outside, and perfectly seasoned, in just around an hour. First you pressure cook the chicken and then you crisp the skin. I was incredulous but it came out perfectly the FIRST time I tried it.

What size is your ninja foodie? 6 or 8?
I have the Ninja Foodie Deluxe and I think that means it’s 8 quart.
