I’m a girl who LOVES to travel. And, it’s important to know what needs to be in your suitcase. While there’s no one-size-fits-all approach — it varies based on where you’re going, what you’re planning to do, who you’re traveling with — there ARE some principles that apply to all trips. As a “Carry On Queen” I believe that most people overpack and that’s what I’m here to help with. If you’re worried about fitting it all into your suitcase, be sure to search for some packing tips to help.

I’m a huge fan of using a capsule wardrobe for travel. I try to choose three bottoms, (no more than) three pairs of shoes and tops that I can mix and match. Every top needs to work with multiple bottoms. I also like to choose a few neutral “third pieces” like a blazer, cardigan or vest to give me additional options.
Be sure to check the weather. If you’re heading somewhere cold to ski, you will need warm outerwear like these women’s thermal gloves from HeatHolders to keep your fingers warm. Always wear your bulkiest jacket and shoes on the plane to save valuable room in your luggage.
You’re not going to be able to get to your destination if you do not have the correct documents that allow you to do so. For example, many destinations outside the U.S. require a visa, and it’s is not always a quick process. Make sure to check the requirements and apply in plenty of time.
When we went to Kenya and Uganda, we needed proof of vaccines. Check the CDC website to see what they recommend and what is required. We had to get yellow fever shots and show our documentation before we could enter Uganda.
Of course, you’re going somewhere new and exciting to explore, not be buried in your devices. However, you’re not going without your phone so be sure to pack your charger, any travel adapters and a backup battery. If you need to work while you’re away, you’ll also need a tablet or your laptop. This is my favorite portable powerbank charger – I never travel without it and and I always slip it into my purse/backpack for day trips. The 10000m-ion high capacity battery comes with 3 built-in cords to charge your mobile phone, camera and/or tablet.
Think about all of the electrical devices that you need and do some research on the voltage requirements at your destination. You may need a travel adapter and a device to change the current. (I learned the hard way that they are not the same thing!)
Make sure that you pack toiletries for your trip. Lots of companies, including BeautyCounter, make travel sizes so you can take your favorites with you. I like to keep a toiletry bag packed so I can just grab it and go. I also take a medical kit if I’m going to a remote destination.
I used this neck support travel pillow during my looooong travel to Europe and home. It’s a good one if you’re a side sleeper.
