If you’ve ever spent any time in Cincinnati, Ohio, chances are you’ve tried Skyline chili. And Skyline Chili Dip is an easy, three-ingredient, cheesy appetizer that’s sure to please.
I lived in Cincinnati for over 20 years, and for the first decade I really didn’t like Cincinnati chili. Then something in my brain clicked, and now I love it. When we go back to visit, we always include at least one trip to Skyline. And I buy the canned chili online so that I can make this yummy dip all through football season.
What the heck is Skyline Chili?
Skyline Chili is a chain of Cincinnati-style chilirestaurants based in Cincinnati, Ohio. It is known for containing both chocolate and cinnamon and being served over unseasoned spaghetti with a giant mountain of shredded cheddar cheese thrown on top. It’s also served as a hot dog (coney) topper, or used to make Skyline Chili Dip.
What Makes Skyline Chili Different?
Unlike other versions of chili con carne, Skyline chile itself contains only meat, spices and water. There are no beans and no onions in the chili itself. The chili does contain chocolate and cinnamon, which gives it a slight hint of sweetness that cuts through the savory nature of the cumin and chili powder.
Where Can You Get Skyline Chili?
Skyline is now available in five states: Ohio, Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan and Florida. But if you don’t live in one of those states, you can order canned Skyline chili and have it shipped to you.
