I love having long eyelashes but my three previous attempts trying eyelash extensions were expensive and wrecked my lashes. In an attempt to find a better solution, I recently tried an eyelash lift and tint and I’m sharing my honest review. I paid for this service myself and this is not a sponsored post.
A national chain called Deka Lash recently opened a new location near my house. I popped in to talk to them and see what options they offered beyond traditional eyelash extensions. After a short discussion I decided to try an eyelash lift and tint.
A lash lift and tint is a two-for-one beauty treatment gives your lashes a semi-permanent version of the curl and color you get from using an eyelash curler and mascara.
An eyelash lash lift is essentially a perm for your eyelashes. After cleaning the eye area and lashes, a solution is applied to each lash and then the lashes are attached to rods (think of them like teeny tiny heatless curling irons). Most of the treatment is just sitting still between steps waiting for the chemicals to activate. There was minimal smell and my (very sensitive) eyes weren’t itchy or burning at this point.
Once the lashes were curled, a lash tint was applied. This is similar to dying your hair or your eyebrows. Think of it like semi-permanent mascara. The tint will make each lashes look darker, thicker and longer. I elected to have both my upper and lower lashes tinted.
When the rods were removed and I opened my eyes, I did experience some stinging. But it was quickly remedied with a squirt of water.
After the treatment you need to keep your lashes completely dry for 48 hours and then you can wash your face and wear makeup as usual. Results should last four to six weeks.
Cost was $115 plus tip. Deka lash sells memberships so if I continue having lash lifts and tints, there may be an option to save money.
Do your homework before getting any beauty treatment. Make sure to go to a professional salon and ensure that the procedure is done by a licensed and certified professional.
To set yourself up for the best results, you should start with healthy lashes. Your lashes should be healthy (not brittle or breaking.)
While it’s very safe, the chemical solution can be irritating if you have sensitive skin, so proceed carefully. Unfortunately, there is no way of telling if you will be sensitive to the product until it’s on your skin. People with lighter eyes or those who wear contacts are usually sensitive to stinging when getting their lashes done, but this is not always the case. The most common risk is over processing the natural lashes, which could take up to two months to grow out.
I wish the results had been more dramatic. But my lashes are already pretty dark and this treatment doesn’t add length. It definitely made my lashes more visible, both because my top lashes were more curled and because my bottom lashes were slightly darker. Overall, I’m happy with the results because I can give my eyelash curler a rest and I’m wearing less mascara. My hunch is that I’ll need to go every five weeks or so but I’m going to try to stretch my appointments to six weeks.
Every week I try a new product and post a (brutally honest) review. This is not an ad. Check out all of my other review posts HERE.
