If you haven’t had avocado toast topped with bacon, do you even brunch? It’s the quintessential brunch dish and it’s so dang easy to make. Plus it’s super versatile because you can add all kinds of additional toppings.
My love for bacon runs deep. I love it chopped on a salad, in a BLT, or as topper for this easy Bacon Avocado Toast.
Best Way To Cook Bacon? In The Oven!
Cooking bacon can be a big, messy pain in the ass, but it doesn’t have to be. With my Crispy No-Mess Sheet Pan Bacon method you just pop it in a cold oven and let it do its thing for about 30 minutes. It makes for easy clean-up and comes out perfect every time. You don’t have to babysit it or stand over a splattering pan on the stove.
I always make a full pound/package of bacon. It never goes to waste. Anything you don’t finish will keep in the fridge or freezer. Just wrap up the leftover cooked slices in a paper towel and pop them into a resealable plastic bag. When you’re ready to reheat, just put the paper towel wrapped bacon in the microwave for 15 – 20 seconds. Voila!
How To Buy A Ripe Avocado
There are about a gazillion articles and videos on the internet about how to know when an avocado is ripe. Here are my tips:
Don’t worry about the color. Different varieties of avocados have different colorations so you can’t always assume that a darker avocado is ripe.
Give it a squeeze. Hold the avocado in the palm of your hand, and squeeze gently. A ripe avocado should yield to firm, gentle pressure, but shouldn’t feel overly soft or mushy.
If an avocado feels firm or hard, it isn’t ripe yet. Purchase it only if you plan to use the fruit several days in the future.
If an avocado feels soft, it’s overripe so you should avoid it.
The harder that an avocado is, the longer that it will likely take for it to ripen.
If you’re purchasing several avocados, it’s a good idea to choose them at various stages of ripeness. That way, you’ll have some that you can use right away, some that you can use in a couple of days, and some that you can use four or five days in the future.
I store my avocados on the counter until they’re perfectly ripe. Then I pop them in the fridge until I’m ready to use them.
